Milestones in the Life of EGA

  • 1991

    EGA first organised informally in Brussels.

  • 1993

    EGA’s statutes are published, and activities begin under its current structure & mission.

  • 1995

    First EGA Annual Conference is held in London.

  • 1995

    EGA membership is opened up to the Accession States and the countries of greater Europe.

  • 1995

    Cyprus becomes first Accession Country to join the EGA, followed by Slovenia in 1997.

  • 1996

    EGA is a founding member of IGPA, the International Generic Pharmaceutical Alliance.

  • 1998

    EGA serves as host to the first Annual IGPA Conference in Rome.

  • 1998

    The first EGA Award is given to the Dutch Institute for Effective Use of Medication (DGV) of the Netherlands.

  • 2001

    EGA becomes a founding member of G10, the EU’s High Level Group on Innovation and Provision of Medicines.

  • 2002

    EGA takes on its first humanitarian project: the development of generic medicines production in Afghanistan.

  • 2004

    The EU Review of Pharmactical Legislation introduces major changes facilitating the approval of generic medicines: Bolar Provision, European Reference Product, Global Market Authorisation, and a Regulatory Pathway for Biosimilar Medicines.

  • 2006

    2006 First approval of a biosimilar medicinal product in the EU.
